Barrie councillor wants mental health solution for cops

 

Ward 1 Coun. Bonnie Ainsworth wants to know if council needs to step in to help Barrie Police deal with mental health issues.

She asked the city’s police services board about the matter Monday, noting mental health calls have been on the rise for years.

“We’ve said a strategy needs to be put in place, but I haven’t seen any action to date,” Ainsworth said. “It’s like a ball that seems to be bounced around and it requires help from others. I’d like to see more movement on it.”
